Greenock cruise shore trips and transfers

Ritaat Coaches meets cruise passengers at Greenock Ocean Terminal with a minibus or coach and a driver, for private shore trips and transfers. Balloch on Loch Lomond is about 34 minutes from the terminal and Glasgow Airport about 25, and we plan every shore trip back from all-aboard time. Send the ship, date and group size for a written quote.

This page is for groups: families travelling together, cruise clubs and travel agents booking a private vehicle. For coach hire in Greenock and Inverclyde on other days, ask us too. We cover the whole UK, so ask about other cruise ports as well.

Greenock Ocean Terminal: the facts

  • Where it is. Greenock Ocean Terminal, Custom House Way, Greenock, Inverclyde [verify the postcode: sources give PA15 1EG and PA15 1EW].
  • Who runs it. Greenock Cruise Port is operated by Global Ports Holding.
  • How busy it is. The port recorded 82 calls and 145,166 passengers in 2025. For 2026, published forecasts ranged from about 75 to more than 77 calls (sources differ). CruiseMapper already lists calls from 6 April 2027, most arriving at 07:00 and leaving at 18:00, but without ship names yet.
  • Where excursion coaches wait. The Inverclyde Tourist Group, which welcomes passengers, says booked excursion coaches wait in the coach park beside the terminal building, and staff direct passengers to them [verify with the port whether private-hire vehicles use the same coach park and need a permit].

Times are an example for a 07:00 to 18:00 call. We build the real plan from your ship’s own times.

The all-aboard rule

We plan back from the ship’s all-aboard time, not its departure time, and aim to have the group at the terminal well before it. Cruise-travel guides note that a ship usually waits for late-running tours the cruise line sold itself, but is under no obligation to wait for a private tour [verify against your cruise line's own terms]. If traffic is bad, we shorten the trip rather than risk the ship.

Private vehicle or the train?

The train is cheaper for two people. ScotRail says Greenock Central station is about a 15-minute walk from the terminal and the ride to Glasgow city centre takes about 40 minutes, with three or four trains an hour. For a group with older passengers, or for Loch Lomond, a private vehicle from the terminal door saves the walk and the change of trains, and runs to your timetable.

Transfers: airport to ship, ship to airport

For a turnaround day, when the cruise starts or ends at Greenock:

  1. Flight in, ship out. We meet the group at Glasgow Airport (see how the Glasgow Airport pick-up works) and drive to the terminal for the cruise line’s check-in window. Other airports are compared on our group airport transfers page.
  2. Ship in, flight out. We meet the group after disembarkation and drive to the airport, leaving time for the airline’s check-in. Tell us the disembarkation time the cruise line gives you.
  3. Luggage. Cruise passengers carry more luggage than most groups, so we size the vehicle from the number of cases. A Sprinter takes about 10 to 15 large suitcases, a Volvo B8R 35 to 40 and a Tourismo about 49.

Invergordon

Invergordon (for Inverness). About 191 miles from Glasgow, almost four hours by car, so a Glasgow vehicle would travel up the day before. For a private tour there, a Highland operator may be better value; we can still quote if you want one company for the whole trip.

Which vehicle

A family or small group fits our minibus (minibus hire in Glasgow); a cruise club or a turnaround transfer with full luggage needs a coach with under-floor lockers (coach hire in Glasgow). Several groups from one ship can be covered with partner operators’ vehicles.

What it costs

The price drivers specific to cruise work:

  • Positioning. The vehicle drives from Glasgow to Greenock to start the job, about 25 miles each way.
  • Hours from terminal pick-up to the return to the ship.
  • Late disembarkation on transfer days. The driver waits 15 minutes past the booked time at no charge; after that, waiting may be charged.

A 16-seat minibus airport pick-up is from £375, and our 53-seat coach is from £1,200 a day (from £1,500 in peak season). Prices differ by season.

Every quote is in writing and lists what is included. See the coach hire price guide for how prices are built. For sightseeing from Glasgow, see our private coach tours; all services are on our services page.

Frequently asked questions

Can you run a private shore trip to Loch Lomond from Greenock?

Yes. Balloch is about 34 minutes and Luss about 44 minutes from the terminal by car. We plan the day back from your ship’s all-aboard time and aim to return the group well before it.

Where do we meet the vehicle at Greenock Ocean Terminal?

Booked excursion coaches wait in the coach park beside the terminal building, according to the Inverclyde Tourist Group. We confirm your exact pick-up point before the day [verify: private-hire pick-up arrangements with the port].

Will the ship wait if our private tour is late?

Do not count on it. Cruise-travel guides say ships usually wait for the cruise line’s own tours but not for private ones. That is why we plan back from all-aboard time with a buffer and shorten the trip if traffic is bad.

Is it cheaper to take the train from Greenock to Glasgow?

For two people, usually yes. ScotRail says Greenock Central is about a 15-minute walk from the terminal, with a 40-minute ride to Glasgow. For a larger group, older passengers or a Loch Lomond trip, a private vehicle from the terminal is simpler.

How long is the drive from Greenock to Glasgow Airport?

About 17 miles, around 25 minutes by car without traffic. Glasgow city centre is about 25 miles, around 35 minutes. A coach takes longer, so we add a buffer.

Do you go to Invergordon?

Yes, we cover the whole UK. Invergordon is about 191 miles away, so a Glasgow vehicle must travel up the day before; a Highland operator may cost less.

Can a travel agent book for their passengers?

Yes. Send the ship, date, passenger numbers and luggage.
