Need more seats, or fewer? For a group bigger than the minibus, we use one of our own coaches (a Mercedes Tourismo or a Volvo B8R) or a partner operator’s vehicle, and your written quote says which vehicle you get. Smaller minibuses come from partner operators only. See coach hire in Glasgow or our minibus or coach guide.

No licence is needed to hire with us: our driver drives. Who needs a D1 to drive a minibus themselves: D1 licence guide.

Minibus or taxis for a group?

For one short hop, taxis can cost less on the meter. A minibus keeps the group together, takes the luggage in one vehicle and needs one booking. Here is the comparison for 16 people going from Glasgow city centre to Glasgow Airport (about 10 miles by road):

TaxisOur minibus
Vehicles needed3 or 4 black cabs (a cab takes 5 or 6 passengers [verify per cab])1 Sprinter (16 seats)
Meter fare per vehicle (day tariff)about £32One price for the group, from £375 for an airport pick-up
Total one wayabout £97 to £130, plus any airport chargeFrom £375
LuggageSplit across cabs10 to 15 large suitcases behind the rear seats
Arrive togetherNot guaranteedYes

How the taxi figure is worked out: Glasgow’s taxi tariff, as reported in June 2024, starts at £4.40 for the first 889 yards and then adds 30p every 179 yards, which is about £2.95 a mile. Ten miles comes to about £32 per cab before extras. A night charge of £1.50 applies between 9pm and 6am, and a further 3.32% rise was proposed in August 2025, so today’s meter fare may be slightly higher. Taxi fares are set by Glasgow City Council; check the current table before you compare.

What groups use the minibus for in Glasgow

All services: group transport services.

Where the minibus picks up

A minibus can stop in more places than a full-size coach: at a hotel door, outside a house or a mosque, or at a venue’s drop-off zone. We agree the exact point when we quote and keep to parking and loading rules. We cover all of Glasgow and nearby towns such as Rutherglen (about 4 miles), Clydebank (about 8 miles), Paisley (about 9 miles) and East Kilbride (about 10 miles). We also run longer trips across the UK, to Ireland and to Paris.

What minibus hire in Glasgow costs

Our minibus with a driver costs from £375 for an airport pick-up. Each trip is quoted individually, and the price depends on the hours, the distance and the date. Fuel, mileage, the driver, tolls, standard parking, waiting time during the hire, bottled water and Wi-Fi are included. Ferry crossings and coach-park or event parking charges are charged at cost and shown on the quote. Attraction tickets, food and gratuity are not included.

Market guide: 8Rental’s Glasgow minibus page lists a 16-seat minibus with driver from £550 for 5 hours, £780 for 10 hours and £295 for a Glasgow Airport transfer, and says its quotes include fuel, tolls, parking and waiting; it does not say whether VAT is included. Coach Hire Comparison’s UK rule of thumb for a minibus is £45 to £95 an hour by vehicle standard. These are other firms’ figures, not Ritaat’s. More on coach and minibus hire prices.

Minibus hire in Glasgow: questions

Typical cost: from £375 for an airport pick-up; the final price depends on the hours, the distance and the date. See typical minibus hire prices for market ranges and what each quote includes.

Can I hire a minibus with a driver in Glasgow?

Yes. Ritaat Coaches hires out its own Mercedes Sprinter minibus with a driver in Glasgow. The driver is always included, and we don’t offer self-drive minibus hire.

How many people fit in your minibus?

Our Sprinter seats 16 passengers. For more people we use one of our own coaches or a partner operator’s vehicle, and your written quote says which vehicle you get.

How much luggage fits?

Behind the rear seats the Sprinter takes 10 to 15 large checked suitcases, or 12 to 14 full-size golf bags. Tell us your luggage when you ask for a quote, and we’ll say if a bigger vehicle is needed.

Is a minibus cheaper than taxis for a group?

Not always. Sixteen people from Glasgow city centre to Glasgow Airport need three or four black cabs at about £32 each on the June 2024 day tariff, so roughly £97 to £130 one way. Our minibus is from £375 for an airport pick-up, but it carries the whole group and its luggage together, for one quoted price.

Do you do airport runs by minibus?

Yes. We take groups to and from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick airports by minibus. Our Glasgow Airport page explains where we meet you.
