The driver waits during the burial. Waiting during the hire is included in the quote, within the 10-hour day, so nobody is rushed.
The return
We bring mourners back to the mosque, the family home or wherever the gathering continues.
Janazah and Muslim burials in Glasgow
Glasgow Central Mosque, in the Gorbals, runs a funeral service. Its page describes collecting the deceased from the mortuary in its own hearses, and says that after ghusl and janazah the deceased are buried in Linn Cemetery, off Carmunnock Road. It also notes that Cathcart Cemetery (Netherlee Road) is now full.
The same page sets the timing that families work to:
- A grave can only be ordered with a Form 14, obtained from the registrar at 45 John Street, Glasgow G1 1JQ, which permits burial.
- For a same-day burial, the Form 14 must reach the mosque by 11:00.
That deadline is why mourner transport for a janazah is often arranged at a few hours’ notice.

What it costs
The family gets a written quote before the day that lists what is included, including how long the driver waits at the cemetery. A quote includes fuel, mileage, the driver, road and bridge tolls, standard parking, waiting time during the hire, bottled water and Wi-Fi. What changes the price:
- Hours, from the first pick-up to the return, including waiting at the cemetery.
- Distance to the burial ground or crematorium.
- Season. Prices differ by season.
