Coach and minibus hire in Lanarkshire
Ritaat Coaches provides coach and minibus hire with a driver across North and South Lanarkshire, including East Kilbride, Hamilton, Motherwell and Cumbernauld. Each town is about 20 to 25 minutes by road from our Glasgow base with no traffic. Our own Mercedes Tourismo (53 seats), Volvo B8R (38 seats) and Sprinter minibus (16 seats) cover many groups; partners supply larger ones.
We are a Glasgow company and don’t have a depot in Lanarkshire. We say that plainly because it affects one thing: for an early pick-up, the vehicle sets off from Glasgow first, and the quote accounts for that.
| Town | Road distance from Glasgow city centre | Drive time (no traffic) |
|---|---|---|
| East Kilbride | about 10 miles | about 23 minutes |
| Hamilton | about 15 miles (M74) | about 21 minutes |
| Motherwell | about 15 miles (M74/M8) | about 21 minutes |
| Cumbernauld | about 13 miles (M80) | about 19 minutes |
Car-speed figures from a route planner; a coach is slower, and rush hour on the M74, M8 and M80 adds time.

East Kilbride
East Kilbride is in South Lanarkshire, about 10 miles south of Glasgow city centre by road. It is the biggest of the four towns.
- The bus station is not a pick-up point for private coaches. East Kilbride bus station, beside the shopping centre, is an SPT station used by scheduled operators. We agree a pick-up nearby instead, such as a school, hall or car park where a coach can stop safely.
- Calderglen Country Park, on the south-east edge of the town, has a children’s zoo run by South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (summer opening 10am to 5.30pm, April to August). Its free car park is in front of the zoo building, and an access guide notes there is no designated drop-off point, so we plan where the coach sets down when we quote [verify coach access with the park].
- Minibus hire in East Kilbride: our Sprinter (16 seats) can collect from a house, a mosque or a hall door, which suits funerals, birthdays and airport runs. Glasgow Airport is on the far side of Glasgow, so allow for M8 traffic.
Hamilton
Hamilton is in South Lanarkshire, about 15 miles from Glasgow by the M74.
- Hamilton Park Racecourse sets coach entry by size: coaches of 35 seats or fewer use the final gate, and larger coaches use Duke’s entrance at the first gate, with signs on Bothwell Road. Parking is free at race meetings. For a race day we plan the return pick-up for after the last race.
- Chatelherault Country Park, at Ferniegair about 2.5 km south-east of the town centre on the A72, has a free car park behind the Hunting Lodge that closes at 5.30pm, and no designated drop-off point. We plan the set-down and the collection time around that closing time.
Motherwell
Motherwell is in North Lanarkshire, about 15 miles from Glasgow. Football and the country park bring most group trips here.
- Fir Park, home of Motherwell FC, is on Fir Park Street (ML1 2QN) and has no parking at the stadium. One recent visiting club’s notice sent supporters’ coaches to Orbiston Street; this changes by match, so we follow the notice for your fixture. For supporters’ clubs and youth teams, see sports and supporters’ coaches.
- Strathclyde Country Park, between Motherwell and Hamilton, is built around a loch, with a watersports centre. Its car parks, including the one by the Water Sports Centre, are free for cars; coach parking rules aren’t published, so we check with the park before the day [verify with North Lanarkshire Council].
Cumbernauld
Cumbernauld is in North Lanarkshire, north-east of Glasgow on the M80, about 13 miles from the city centre.
- Palacerigg Country Park, in the hills south-east of the town, has a children’s farm, nature trails and a treetop walkway. North Lanarkshire Council notes there is no public transport to the park, which is why groups hire a coach or minibus to get there [verify coach access on the park road].

Lanarkshire questions
Do you cover East Kilbride, Hamilton, Motherwell and Cumbernauld?
Yes. We pick up in all four towns and elsewhere in North and South Lanarkshire, with our own coaches and minibus or a partner operator’s vehicle.
How long does it take from Glasgow to Lanarkshire?
With no traffic, about 19 minutes to Cumbernauld, 21 minutes to Hamilton or Motherwell and 23 minutes to East Kilbride by car. A coach is slower, and rush hours on the M74, M8 and M80 add time.
Can a coach pick up at East Kilbride bus station?
No. It is an SPT bus station used by scheduled services, so we agree a nearby pick-up point such as a school, hall or car park where a coach can stop safely.
Where can a coach park at Hamilton Park Racecourse?
Coaches of 35 seats or fewer use the final gate, and larger coaches use Duke’s entrance at the first gate, following signs on Bothwell Road. Parking is free at race meetings.
Can you take a supporters’ club to Fir Park?
Yes. There is no parking at Fir Park itself, so we follow the club’s travel notice for coach parking, which has used Orbiston Street for one recent fixture.
